using your blaster
Blaster combat works just like Lightsaber Combat, with some slight modifications.
components of the blaster combat mechanic
Every character will have the following:
-
First, there's a different set of combat emotion cards for Blaster Combat, such as:
-
Second, characters will have either a blaster power rating or, if it's their own Memory, a force power rating, which will probably be different from their usual rating. This difference in ability represents how your character had less training and practice in the Force before now. This defines how many Combat Emotion Cards you can select from your Deck for this combat.
-
Third, characters will still have a force association, which will include blaster AND a normal Balanced, Dark, or Light side Force Association.
-
Fourth, characters appearing in someone's Memory will still have a closed pouch of force stones, even if these characters do not have a connection to the Force. These characters can pull from their physical reserves and their Blaster skills to continue fighting, even when they've exhausted their Blaster Combat Emotion Cards.
If this is your Memory, you can use your own Force Stones, drawn from your own Closed Pouch. This represents your untrained Force use making a difference in how you fire your Blaster. Given your lack of training in these early days, the Force Stones you pull from your Pouch can not be restored.
Thus, Blaster combat uses all of the same components of Lightsaber combat, in the same manner.
how to fight with blasters
For this example, we're going to define these combatants:
name | force association | force power |
Hunter Killer Droid HK-YEAH | Blaster, Dark Side | 3 |
Padawan Barbie, Jedi Beginner | Light Side | 5 |
Note that HK-YEAH has two Force Associations: blaster and dark side. This is because they will be doing combat with their Blaster, and they may be pulling force stones from their pouch to increase their score. There are no Blaster colored Force Stones, so their pouch will contain some combination of Dark Side, Light Side, and Balanced Force Stones. HK-YEAH can continue their combat as long as every stone they pull is a Dark Side Force Stone.
Combat follows the same sequence of six steps outlined in the Lightsaber combat description, with each person getting a chance to match or raise the cumulative score.
The combat could go something like this:
- Hunter Killer Droid HK-YEAH, seeing Padawan Barbie wearing pink and purple in defiance of N-Field Empire regulations, declares "You must only wear gray and black! Combat!" Padawan Barbie joins the fight to defend themselves from this fashion nightmare![1]
-
combat emotion card selection
- With a Force Power of three, HK-YEAH draws three (3) cards.
- Padawan Barbie selects five (5) cards.
-
round one
- HK-YEAH plays their rusty card. "It has been a long time since I've seen a flagrantly illegal color choice like this and my aim is rusty." The score is one.
- Padawan Barbie, with their lightsaber, plays their hope card. "I hope you'll come to your senses, because life is drab without pink and purple!" The score is now two.
-
round two
- HK-YEAH plays their desperate card. "I must defend the N-Field Empire's clothing conformity at all costs!" The score is now three.
- Padawan Barbie plays their joy card. "Pink and purple bring much needed joy to the people of the Empire!" The score is now four.
-
round three
- HK-YEAH plays their precise card. "My aim has gotten more precise as I continue to blast away at your outfit." They pull two Force Stones from their pouch, both Dark Side Force Stones. The score is now six.
- Padawan Barbie plays their love card. "My love for pink and purple is strong with the Force!" The score is now seven.
-
round four
- HK-YEAH is out of Combat Emotion Cards, but they can still pull Force Stones. They reach into their bag and pull out their last two Force Stones, both Dark Side. Their score is now eight, but they are now entirely out of Combat Emotion Cards and Force Stones. They have nothing more they can do, ending their combat.
- Padawan Barbie plays their inspiration card. "You can see how my clothing inspires my combat strength, and I look really wonderful as I fight." The score is now nine. Padawan Barbie still has one more Combat Emotion Card for this combat, but it is not necessary. Padawan Barbie has won the fight!
-
restoration
- While HK-YEAH drew four Force Stones, Blaster Combat Emotion Cards do not restore anything. HK-YEAH has four fewer Force Stones to use in any combat after this.
- Padawan Barbie has not drawn any Force Stones in this combat, so they do not need to pull stones to restore their pouch.
-
fashion!
- Padawan Barbie decides that HK-YEAH needs color in their life, and, as their Forfeit, uses the Force to bind pink and purple paints directly into the metallic body of the droid. No longer drab, HK-YEAH is now making a cutting-edge fashion statement!
notes
[1]: I am personally very purple in so many ways, always with purple hair streaked with pink. The Force of Fashion is also powerfully strong in me! Black and gray can be very stylish, but I need color — with coordinated heels and my purple lightsaber!
