Dustpan: the LARP
All life is a journey, and for these denizens of the Great Wooden Expanse, it is a trip from the Light, from the Dark, and from all the places in between. Where will it end? Come learn about the world of the very small, the world of the Great Wooden Expanse, and all those swept up in this tale of passion, theology and inevitability, an epic of Light and Dark, of Biblical proportion, under the Couch.
Dustpan: the LARP is a game for eighteen players willing to go into the dark recesses behind and under the couch. This is a game of characters with stories to tell, with some plot sprinkled in. What else lies under the couch is part of the mystery, and beyond that, who knows?
Dustpan: the LARP is a two hour LARP for eighteen players, designed and written by Jennifer Diewald, with important contributions from Lynn Anslow, Dave Clarkson, Jordan Diewald, Susan Giusto, Tim Lasko, Charlie McCutcheon, and Barry Tannenbaum. This is a character-driven, lightly-plotted, low-mechanic, little-to-no-combat LARP. All of the characters are written in gender neutral terms, so they are playable by everyone, with the choice of character gender, if any, entirely up to the player.
The game is open to younger players, with parental guidance.
Content Warnings: Those allergic to dust or household pets should be safe against others role-playing dust bunnies, dust, pets or pet byproducts. Some characters may be tasted and partially eaten by other characters. This game also contains far more than your minimum daily requirement of vitamins and bad puns. There have been other silly, odd, or unexpectedly serious things that have raised issues with a small number of individual players in the past. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to ask us about them.
Character sheets are typically 3-5 pages long, in 14 point font. Players in the game will be required to fill in the casting questionnaire. Once everyone has answered, we'll cast the game. Players will get their characters after being cast, well before the game, with enough time to prepare costuming. The common game bluesheets are directly available using the navigation links on this site.
Some Praise From Our Players
Think this is a bit strange? It IS! It's also a lot of fun! Here's what some of our Intercon E players had to say:
-
Sunday, I played what may well have been my favorite game of the weekend: Dustpan. I was Gaak Blurgh, the cat's hairball.
-
On Sunday morning I was Fuzz, a dust bunny, in Dustpan: the LARP, an experience which reassured me that, no matter how skewed and twisted my worldview may sometimes be, there is a group of people who are more skewed and twisted than (okay, or at least as skewed and twisted as) I am.
-
It was silly and fun. I played a piece of metal, and my character sheet managed to quote the Bible, and it worked.
-
Finally, Sunday morning I was Flaikee, a dust bunny, in Dustpan. What a hoot! A serious (?) contender for my highest praise of the weekend. There were so many wonderful (translate as bad) puns. I don't think there was anyone that wasn't cracking up at one point or another. Lots of fun.
