Moving
Never confuse movement with action.
Ernest Hemingway
Almost all of the characters in Dustpan: the LARP are NOT mobile. They don't normally have the ability to move around. This, however, would make a pretty dull game, with everyone just standing or sitting around. Therefore, we have special rules for movement.
There are three factors that determine how you can move.
The Division of Game Space
Movement in the game is based on where you are. There are three areas in game space:
- On the Great Wooden Expanse Under the Couch. This area will be well-marked.
- On the Great Wooden Expanse Beyond the Couch. This will be everything else.
- A Special Area Which Will Become Apparent Later. This is the SAWWBAL. You will learn what this is when the time comes.
The Light and the Dark
Movement in the game is also based on whether you are in the Light or the Dark. If the great Light is on and shining down on or at you, you cannot physically move. If you are in the shadow, in Darkness, you can move freely.
It is possible for the room to be in the Light and Under the Couch to be in the Dark. It is possible for the Light to reach Under the Couch. If you are in doubt, please ask.
Special Abilities
Some characters may have special abilities that allow them to move. Those abilities are not restricted by location or the Light.
GMs have the power to negate all special abilities temporarily. We'll announce those times.
To Summarize
-
If you are in an area that is Dark, you can move freely.
-
If you are in an area that is in the Light, you can't move.
-
If you are on the SAWWBAL, you can only move as the GMs direct.
-
If you have a movement Special Ability, you can move as the ability allows.
-
If a GM says "Stop," you must stop moving, regardless of where you are, even if it is Dark or you have a Special Ability.
Note: There's no need to run. We don't want anyone to get hurt.
